Description:
 | MOST PEOPLE OUTSIDE OF THE COUNTRY OF ARGENTINA HAVE NEVER EVEN SEEN ONE OF THESE. WE HAVE TWO! BOTH ARE IN PROCESS OF RESTORATION. BOTH ARE NEARLY IDENTICAL. BOTH ARE HUGGER ORANGE. EITHER ONE WILL MAKE A FANTASTIC ADDITION TO ANY COLLECTION.
Virtually every car enthusiast is familiar with Chevrolet's low budget Muscle Car, the Nova. These iconic Classics now rank right up with the Chevelle and Camaro in popularity and demand. However, almost no one knows about an extremely rare and unique cousin that was built thousands of miles from the United States. This is the Chevrolet Chevy, a Nova hybrid that was manufactured in the South American country of Argentina from 1969- 1978.
The top of the line model was the Chevy Series 2 Super Sport. Although the GM of Argentina built Chevys resembled the American Nova from the exterior, that is where the similarities end.
All of the vehicles were built from the 1968 Nova platform. All Chevys were produced with in line six cylinder engines. The Super Sports featured the 250 Cu. In. six, specially tuned with a Holley two barrel carburetor, producing 168 HP. Most Super Sports were coupled to a ZF four speed manual transmission, although automatic transmissions were available.
Corsa, a South American auto magazine, tested a Chevy SS Coupe and obtained a 0-100KPH (0-62 MPH) time of 8.2 seconds. The Super Sports were available in both two and four door models.
The interiors were radically different from their American counterparts. Unique features included a special Sport Steering Wheel, unusual high backed, reclining bucket seats, different dashboard, etc. The ignition was never moved to the steering column on these models. They are all mounted in the dash, as in the 1968 version.
These are not reproductions. These are the real deal. Fortunately, both vehicles were purchased with their original parts, including trim, emblems, and even dealer emblems. The parts are stamped with "Industria Argentina".
Stay tuned for restoration updates.
