Click Photo (More Info.)

FIRST ALL VINYL WRAPPED '65 MUSTANG IN THE COUNTRY!

PLEASE READ THIS ARTICLE WRITTEN BY JONATHAN LAMAS, FEATURE WRITER FOR WWW.ABOUT.COM:
From Jonathan Lamas, Your Guide to Mustangs.

Road Rage Designs installed the first-ever complete vehicle wrap on a 1965 Mustang using Avery Graphics MPI 1005 EZ RS & DOL 1000 vehicle wraps. Kris Harris of Road Rage Designs located in Spring Grove, Illinois said, "We were able to design the scales on the wrap to exactly match the interior color of the Mustang. The car is impressive, especially in person, and the MPI 1005 EZ RS vinyl makes the detail of the design really pop and the DOL 1000 gives it a glossy, paint-like finish." Mike Grillo, owner of Road Rage Designs added, "If you get tired of the design, you can remove the wrap and the paint on the car will look the same as the day you put the wrap on."

The process was completed by trained vehicle wrap installers at Road Rage Designs and was highlighted in two segments on the ClassicMuscleCars.com TV show. The video is available for viewing on www.classicmusclecars.com. For more information about these wraps, visit www.averygraphics.com.

JUST COMPLETED! 1965 MUSTANG SHELBY HERTZ RENT-A-RACER TRIBUTE !

FIRST, LET'S CLARIFY THAT WE ARE AWARE OF THE FACT THAT THE HERTZ RENT-A-RACER PROGRAM WASN'T INSTITUTED UNTIL SEPT. 1965, AND '66 MODELS WERE USED. THIS IS A 1965 BUILT INTO A '66 TRIBUTE VEHICLE.

HERTZ RENT-A- RACER:

In September of 1965 Shelby American General Manager Peyton Cramer struck up a deal with Hertz to offer the 1966 GT350H Mustang as a rental car. The program was a clever one for Ford and Shelby as it worked to promote the Shelby Mustang to potential buyers. As Ford puts it, “The idea was to put high-performance, special-edition Shelby Mustang coupes into the hands of racing enthusiast-minded rental customers.” That’s right, if you were a Hertz Sports Car Club member back in 1966 (and 25 years of age), you could drive off the rental car lot in a performance 306 hp Mustang fastback. Total cost: $17 a day and 17 cents a mile. Not a bad deal by today’s standards and not a bad deal back then.

Lazer straight, all steel body panels. This beautiful machine spent it's life in Kentucky and Tennessee. Show quality, mirror gloss Raven Black base coat/ clear coat exterior finish. Gold Shelby striping. Shelby scooped hood and side fresh air scoops. Gold side striping. New Eleanor wheels and new directional radial tires. New front and rear bumpers. New Shelby gas cap. New door handles. New drip rail moldings. Remaining chrome and stainless is original and in great shape. Dual exhaust exit from the lower valance cutouts. All glass is crystal clear.

Rebuilt 289 Cu. In. engine. Holley four barrel carburetor. Cobra valve covers and air cleaner. Runs and drives well. Manual steering. Manual brakes. Full Flowmaster exhaust. C-4 automatic transmission. Eight inch rear differential.

All new Black vinyl bucket interior. New seat covers, door panels, carpet, etc. Original dash is in excellent condition. Fold down rear seat. Original woodgrain 3 spoke wheel. Cobra tachometer mounted on dash. Seat belts. Factory AM radio. Single chrome bullet mirror.

Highly detailed undercarriage. All original pans were stripped and refinished in 30* Gloss Black.

If you are looking for a show winning, dependable driving, Hertz Rent-A- Racer and don't want to spend $150,000, this car may be for you. You won't find a cleaner example anywhere.

DEGREE OF RESTORATION RANGES FROM A ROTISSERIE, NUT AND BOLT REBUILD, TO AN ORIGINAL BARN FIND WITH COSMETIC AND MECHANICAL UPGRADES, TO A HIGH LEVEL DRIVER QUALITY. EACH ONE IS DOCUMENTED IN THE PACE CAR REGISTRY. IT IS ESTIMATED THAT THERE ARE LESS THAN 25 ROADWORTHY EXAMPLES IN THE WORLD. HERE IS A CHANCE TO OWN A COLLECTION OF FIVE! PLEASE READ THE FULL HISTORY BELOW.

WE BEGIN WITH A LESSON- PACE CAR 101. TO EMPHASIZE HOW UNBELIEVABLY RARE THESE ADDITIONS TO TONY'S PERSONAL COLLECTION ARE, HERE'S THE MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION- WHAT VEHICLE PACED THE 1964 INDIANAPOLIS 500? HOLDIT!- NO FAIR RUNNING TO YOUR REFERENCE LIBRARY- NO DASH TO THE COMPUTER. YOU DON'T KNOW, DO YOU? DON'T FEEL BAD- THE 1964 1/2 MUSTANG PACED THE 1964 INDY 500, AND THE FOLLOWING FASCINATING HISTORY LESSON IS GOING TO EXPLAIN WHY YOU DIDN'T KNOW THAT. IT IS THE STORY OF POSSIBLY THE RAREST INDY PACE CAR EVER- THE 1964 1/2 MUSTANG.

Three 1964 1/2 Mustang Convertibles were sent directly from the factory to Holman&Moody in North Carolina, where they were modified for Pace Car duties. Of these 3, ONE is known to exist today.

In addition to the 3 Track Cars, 35 Convertible "Festival Cars" or Dignitary Cars were supplied to Indianapolis. Of those 35, only ONE exists today.

This brings us to the ONLY other Mustang Pace Cars ever produced- The 190 factory Mustang Indy Pace Car Edition Coupes.

Due to the staggering demand for and popularity of the Mustang, Ford executives decided to institute a competition among Ford dealers nationwide. This promotional competition was planned to distribute Pace Car Editions to dealers as a sales performance reward, with the intention of then releasing the vehicles for sale to the general public. Due to the lack of availability of convertibles, the vehicles were built from the two door coupe platform.

The factory competition consisted of two contests. They were promoted as the "Checkered Flag", which were retreived by the dealer at Dearborn, and "Green Flag", which were transferred from the District Sales Office. The top five performing dealers in each of the 36 sales districts were rewarded with a Pace Car Edition, either for free or at a deep discount. Also, based on strong dealer sales performance, another 10 were built, bringing the total to an estimated 190. Lee Iacocca himself presented the keys to the winning dealers at a special Dearborn ceremony.

Each coupe was painted in Code C, '64 1/2 Pace Car White. Code 42 White/Blue interior. The Pace Cars were equipped with the 260 V8 engine, backed by an automatic transmission. "Official Pace Car" decals and appointments adorned the exterior of the vehicles.

Now for the "Rest of the Story". Never in the history of the Indianapolis 500 did the Pace Car committee choose a vehicle that had only just started production! This created a problem for Ford- availability of these cars for Indy use. Also, the factory and dealerships never counted on the massive appeal of Regular Production cars and the overwhelming demand that would occur. Therefore, many dealers were forced to strip their Pace Cars of decals, etc. and sell them as regular Mustang Coupes just to fill their customer orders. This means that many of these original Pace Car Editions were lost just because the buyer didn't even know the true history of the vehicle he was buying!

It is estimated by many experts in the Mustang Enthusiast Circles that there are only approximately 50 Pace Car Coupes that even exist, and of these, less than 25 are roadworthy. This is a chance to own 1,2,3,4, or 5 of them!

FIBERFAB AVENGER COBRA KIT CAR!

The mythical Ford GT-40 has been coveted by Ford enthusiasts since the day it appeared on the scene. This magnificent automobile was the idea of Henry Ford II, to bring attention to the high performance vehicles that Ford was capable of producing. He started the Ford Advanced Vehicles Division in Slough, England to break Ferrari's dominance of road racing. This high performance sports car emerged as the primary adversary of Ferrari. The most historic event was the 24 Hours of LeMans in June, 1966. In that race, Ford not only prevented Ferrari from winning a sixth straight title, but also finished one, two, and three. In 1966, the GT-40 Mark 3 was introduced, which was a street version of the race cars. Years later, the GT-40 was repackaged and re-released as the Ford GT, on an extremely limited basis.

The popularity of this Ford was overwhelming. However, due to the great expense of the car, possibility of ownership was extremely limited. This factor ignited one of the greatest aftermarket surges in automotive history- the GT-40 Replica. Dozens of companies opened their facilities, each featuring their own version of the Ford GT-40. Although not exact replicas, they were based on the basic platform of the GT-40.

One of the most well known companies was Fiberfab. Fiberfab was founded by Warren "Bud" Goodwin, offering an affordable version of a car everyone wanted to own. He offered a two model Avenger line, and the advanced Valkyrie. With various body, drivetrain, and option packages, a potential owner could build the car of his dreams. The majority of the vintage units were built in the '60's and early '70's. The Valkyrie was revived in 2003 by a new Fiberfab, and many new versions are available. However, the vintage models are the most sought after by enthusiasts.

All paperwork suggests this is a vintage 1967 Avenger GT-15. We are not experts in these cars, however. Hugger Orange exterior finish. The paint is older and has some touch ups from driving. However, the overall finish has been highly buffed to a mirror gloss. Tilt front nose. Tilt rear bonnet with air intake scoop. Shaved door handles. Dual recessed headlamp pods. Clear headlamp covers are missing. Dual sport mirrors. Custom fabricated, offset wheels fitted to Karmann Ghia four lug hubs. Radial tires, P205/75R15 on the front and P235/75R15 on the rear. All three body sections are fiberglass. Rear window is from a 1965 Mustang fastback, and is in good condition. Front windshield is 1965 Corvair- stone chip in center of windshield. Passenger side window is 1965 Ford Galaxie. Driver's window glass is broken. A replacement is included with the car.

Square tubular frame from front to rear. Karmann Ghia floor pan. Karmann Ghia balljoint front end. Front disc brakes. Fuel tank mounted under front hood. Heavy duty radiator and electric cooling fan also mounted under front hood. Chevrolet 4.3 liter six cylinder engine. Overbored .030". Ported and polished heads. Melling hydraulic cam and valve train. Rochester Quadra- Jet four barrel carburetor. Custom dual exhaust. Karmann Ghia transaxle, four speed with hydraulic clutch and slave cylinder.

Black interior. Two fiberglass bucket seats. Seat covers need replacement. Seats are not bolted down. No door panels. Carpet is worn. Three spoke steering wheel with tilt column. 160 MPH speedometer. Water, fuel, oil temperature, and oil pressure gauges. All controls are in an overhead electrical panel. Six point roll cage.

This is a running and driving car. Mechanicals and electricals are complete. However, it has been in storage for several years, so it may need some maintenance and tweaking to be fully road worthy. Transferrable Georgia tag receipt- titled as a 1974 Volkswagen. There is a complete baby book that goes with the car, with all specs, diagrams, etc. THERE ARE OVER 100 PAGES IN THE DOCUMENT FILE!
