EACH ONE IS AN INDIVIDUAL. EACH ONE HAS UNIQUE QUALITIES OF IT'S OWN. DEGREE OF RESTORATION RANGES FROM A ROTISSERIE, NUT AND BOLT REBUILD, TO AN ORIGINAL BARN FIND WITH COSMETIC AND MECHANICAL UPGRADES, TO A HIGH LEVEL DRIVER QUALITY. EACH ONE IS DOCUMENTED IN THE PACE CAR REGISTRY. IT IS ESTIMATED THAT THERE ARE LESS THAN 25 ROADWORTHY EXAMPLES IN THE WORLD. HERE IS A CHANCE TO OWN A COLLECTION OF FIVE! PLEASE READ THE FULL HISTORY BELOW.

WE BEGIN WITH A LESSON- PACE CAR 101. TO EMPHASIZE HOW UNBELIEVABLY RARE THESE ADDITIONS TO TONY'S PERSONAL COLLECTION ARE, HERE'S THE MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION- WHAT VEHICLE PACED THE 1964 INDIANAPOLIS 500? HOLDIT!- NO FAIR RUNNING TO YOUR REFERENCE LIBRARY- NO DASH TO THE COMPUTER. YOU DON'T KNOW, DO YOU? DON'T FEEL BAD- THE 1964 1/2 MUSTANG PACED THE 1964 INDY 500, AND THE FOLLOWING FASCINATING HISTORY LESSON IS GOING TO EXPLAIN WHY YOU DIDN'T KNOW THAT. IT IS THE STORY OF POSSIBLY THE RAREST INDY PACE CAR EVER- THE 1964 1/2 MUSTANG.

Three 1964 1/2 Mustang Convertibles were sent directly from the factory to Holman&Moody in North Carolina, where they were modified for Pace Car duties. Of these 3, ONE is known to exist today.

In addition to the 3 Track Cars, 35 Convertible "Festival Cars" or Dignitary Cars were supplied to Indianapolis. Of those 35, only ONE exists today.

This brings us to the ONLY other Mustang Pace Cars ever produced- The 190 factory Mustang Indy Pace Car Edition Coupes.

Due to the staggering demand for and popularity of the Mustang, Ford executives decided to institute a competition among Ford dealers nationwide. This promotional competition was planned to distribute Pace Car Editions to dealers as a sales performance reward, with the intention of then releasing the vehicles for sale to the general public. Due to the lack of availability of convertibles, the vehicles were built from the two door coupe platform.

The factory competition consisted of two contests. They were promoted as the "Checkered Flag", which were retreived by the dealer at Dearborn, and "Green Flag", which were transferred from the District Sales Office. The top five performing dealers in each of the 36 sales districts were rewarded with a Pace Car Edition, either for free or at a deep discount. Also, based on strong dealer sales performance, another 10 were built, bringing the total to an estimated 190. Lee Iacocca himself presented the keys to the winning dealers at a special Dearborn ceremony.

Each coupe was painted in Code C, '64 1/2 Pace Car White. Code 42 White/Blue interior. The Pace Cars were equipped with the 260 V8 engine, backed by an automatic transmission. "Official Pace Car" decals and appointments adorned the exterior of the vehicles.

Now for the "Rest of the Story". Never in the history of the Indianapolis 500 did the Pace Car committee choose a vehicle that had only just started production! This created a problem for Ford- availability of these cars for Indy use. Also, the factory and dealerships never counted on the massive appeal of Regular Production cars and the overwhelming demand that would occur. Therefore, many dealers were forced to strip their Pace Cars of decals, etc. and sell them as regular Mustang Coupes just to fill their customer orders. This means that many of these original Pace Car Editions were lost just because the buyer didn't even know the true history of the vehicle he was buying!

It is estimated by many experts in the Mustang Enthusiast Circles that there are only approximately 50 Pace Car Coupes that even exist, and of these, less than 25 are roadworthy. This is a chance to own 1,2,3,4, or 5 of them!

FIVE SPOKE CHROME WHEELS, AND FOR THE TRUE STOCK LOOK, ORIGINAL STEEL WHEELS, HUB CAPS, AND EXTRA SET OF TIRES GO WITH IT. BUILT WITH THE WILDLY POPULAR FORD 289 CU. IN. ENGINE, AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. THIS BABY IS DEPENDABLE ENOUGH TO DRIVE ANYWHERE. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THE FORD COUNTRY SQUIRE STATION WAGON , WHILE WEARING "COUNTRY SQUIRE" BADGING FOR MANY YEARS, WAS ACTUALLY PART OF THE GALAXIE 500 LINEUP IN 1964 AND 1965. THESE WAGONS FEATURED THE SAME TRIM AS THE 500 INSIDE AND OUT, AND WERE AN UPGRADE FROM THE BASE MODEL COUNTRY SQUIRE LINEUP. THIS UNIQUE HOT ROD IS PRICED SO ANYONE CAN AFFORD IT. DON'T LET THIS ONE PASS BY. YOU WON'T FIND ANOTHER JUST LIKE IT.

1964 was a banner year for Ford. Not only was the Ford Mustang debuted in 1964, but also the Ford Fairlane Thunderbolt Two-Door Hardtop. The Mustang was an attractive, sporty, vehicle that offered visual appeal and performance, while the Fairlane Thunderbolt was a drag racing machine that had the performance to take on any production vehicle created during that era. Although these models grabbed all the headlines, Ford offered many more unique and popular platforms.

The Fairlane was sold between 1955 and 1970. The name was derived from Henry Ford's estate, Fair Lane, near Dearborn, MI. Over time, the name referred to a number of different cars in different classes. By 1962, the Fairlane was revamped from a full size to a mid size, to bridge the gap between the compact Ford Falcon and the full-sized Galaxie. In mid 1963 production, a station wagon model was added to the Fairlane lineup. Originally built as a grocery getter and family traveler, some ambitious hot rodders have created unique and one of a kind variations. This is one of those unique modified examples.

The body has just been prepped and refinished in Satin Black paint. This is not primer. Period correct graphics have been applied to the body. Back in the day, a vintage pop art mural was painted on the roof, from front to back. It has been cleared over and preserved. The art work that was involved in this mural is amazing. Glass all around is in very good condition. Stainless and chrome in good shape, with patina. Front bumper is in good condition. Rear bumper is fair, with dents and dings. Dual sport mirrors. Five spoke chrome wheels with radial tires. Look great on the car. However, if you want a stocker look, the original steel wheels, with tires and hubcaps, are included. Currently has a hot rod/rat rod look, but would make a great surf or beach wagon also.

Most of the interior appears original. Both front and rear seat backs are in decent condition. The front and rear cushions are worn. The Indian blankets represent popular rat rod look. If you want to remove the blankets, some seat work will be required. Dash is all original. Custom vintage door panels. No headliner. Billet spoked steering wheel. Factory AM radio. A/C unit mounted under the dash.

Mildly built 289 Cu. In. engine. Holley four barrel carburetor mounted on Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold. Hydraulic cam and valve train. HEI ignition. Tube headers are connected to a Flowmaster exhaust. Manual drum brakes. Automatic transmission. The undercarriageis not undercoated, hiding any flaws. The complete undercarriage is original and untouched, with its' natural finish. It is clean and solid.

You won't find another. You won't find anything like it at this price. This is an opportunity to own a rare, one of a kind classic for pennies on the dollar.
